General Introduce

ATH is one halogen free flame retardant, and have high thermal stability. is one white powder without smell; it is neutral substance that can react with acid and alkali both. ATH-1 grade is widely used as fire retardant in plastic and rubber industry.

ATH is mainly produced by Bayer method:

Firstly, Bauxite was made to Sodium Aluminate solution by NaOH. And then The separated solution was added NaOH seed to crystalize and precipitate Al(OH)3 by suitable temperature and agitation speed. Finally, the material is washed, press-filtered and dried to packed.

By control the crystallization time, we can make different particle size grade product. Currently, there are three standard grade Al(OH)3 on particle size:1.0um,1.3um and 1.7um.

Applications

ATH-1 is one inorganic fire retardant whit low cost. It has not only property as fire retardant, but good performance to reduce smoke and toxic gas, anti drop etc, so ATH become the most widely used fire retardant in plastic and rubber, such as polyesters, acrylics, ethylene vinyl acetate, epoxies, PVC and rubber.

Normally, ATH-1 additive amount is very high that is up to 30-60phr;

it is easy to influence the mechanical properties of the material, so its quantity should be controlled. When AL (OH) 3 is composited with other types of fire retardants, such as Zinc Borate, Phosphorus, PBDEs, synergism is very good that can improve the performance considerably.

ATH-1 grade can be surface treated by non-polar polymer of Stearic acid or Silicon Oil, the compatibility and combination with plastic material will be improved so that it is easy to evenly distribute into material, then the performance of fire retardant and mechanical properties is better than normal grade AL (OH) 3.
